A group picture of participants and speakers!
As part of Salihara's Literature and Ideas Festival 2023, a monologue workshop led by Zack Rogow, an American poet and playwright (amongst other things), and Lorri Holt, an American actress and voice actress, was held.
I luckily had the chance to join this workshop with many other French Literature students, and honestly it was a very valuable experience which reminded me of my love and passion for the performing arts. We did several exercises to increase our confidence and improvisation ability on stage. We also got to watch a snippet of 'Colette Uncensored' performed by Lorri and co-written by Zack!
During the workshop we had to make a monologue of our own experience (or an experience told to us) and perform it to the rest of the class. It was a bit challenging as we had less than two hours, but working in groups of two or three definitely helped the brainstorming process and expand our story-telling skills.
Everyone did amazing performances, ranging from humorous to very emotional, and it was a delight to watch. At the end of the day we learnt not only how to develop a story but also how to perform it in a way that captures the audience and I felt very encouraged to pursue theatre and acting! Overall it was a great workshop.
Discussing monologues with my groupmate - Asmara Abigail!
What did I make out of it? Well, here's my monologue, "Major Choices"
